Beyond The Bench 8/4

Ryan Stern is live every week to discuss the world of sports.

Well, we have reached football season. There is no Sunday without football until the week before the Super Bowl. And with the beginning of preseason, comes the divisional previews. On today's show, we will break down the NFC East and AFC East. Do the Cowboys have what it takes to repeat last year's divisional title? Can Chip Kelly bounce back with another new QB at the helm? Can the Giants defense do enough or will the offense have to carry them? Is Washington a contender to win more games than people think?

In the AFC East, how do we view the Super Bowl Champion Patriots if Tom Brady does miss 4 games? Can the Dolphins justify all the hype surrounding the team? Will the Bills offense be able to put up any sufficient points to help their top 5 defense? Have the Jets done enough offensively to make any sort of run? All of these questions will be answered.

We will be joined by nj.com 's own Charles Curtis as he will discuss the Giants, Jets, and his book that will be hitting shelves in the next few weeks, Strange Country Day.

New Derby Format a Home Run

Derby World

Let it be said.  2015 is the year of the home run.  While pitching has been dominating Major League Baseball for the past few seasons July 13th was a day to showcase the long ball.  Much like its counterpart in the NBA, baseballs premier skills showcase has fallen flat for several years running.  The event had become long, drawn out, repetitive...boring.  As an avid baseball fan I would watch every year and every year it felt more and more like a chore.   Hitters would take 2,3,4,5 pitches in a row to catch a breather.  Minutes would be lost while a crowd of players would bring drinks to hitters mid-round.  Chris Berman would run out of pointless puns by the middle of the second round.  It was a wash, rinse, repeat type event.  As much as I hate to say it, I had no interest in watching this year.

MLB Prospect Watch: Chris Bassitt

Pitcher Chris Bassitt has come a long way since the start of the 2014 season. After breaking his hand in a non-related baseball injury in the offseason, Bassit was forced to spend a lot of downtime watching Double-A games in the Southern League with his pitching coach Britt Burns.

MLB Prospect Watch: Kyle Roller

New York Yankees prospect Kyle Roller slipped under everyone’s radar since joining the organization in 2010. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders first baseman has never been apart of any top prospect lists, and at 26-years old, his prospect status is fading.

MLB Prospect Watch: Tony Campana

In three weeks, Major League rosters will expand from 25 players to 40, giving baseball’s top prospects a chance to be a part of a contending team’s post-season push.

Perhaps a date on every prospect’s calendar, the September call-ups are an opportunity for players who are right on the cusp between the Major and Minor League level.

Seth and Sean's Excellent Adventure Stadium Tour Day 3+4

Trust me when I say that the sun in Oakland was the only thing "sunny" about the start of Day III!

The adventure started at six a.m. with the flight from rainy Seattle. First, Sean did not provide the cab with the right address, so he couldn't find the house. Then the flight got delayed for over an hour while sitting on the tarmac. Neither Sean nor Seth knew this however, as both were asleep aboard the forty person plane.
