    The Webb Report: Knicks Talk!!

    Author Eric Webb

It was a light week for the New York Knicks, in terms of their games played, but a heavy one in terms of the pressure the 70-year old organization received from the media and fans around New York.

The Knicks only played three games this week instead of four and had three days until their next game, but the critics of the Knicks took no days off this week. The usual Knicks fans booed their team as they lost to the Pelicans at the Garden and to the Sixers in Philadelphia, but they also have been publicly criticizing Carmelo Anthony on multiple social media platforms begging the team to trade him. The week the plot thickened by Phil Jackson’s good friend, Charlie Rosen, jumping into the conversation suggesting that Melo would consider waiving his no-trade clause in his current 5-year $124 million contract, only if he was dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers or Cleveland Cavaliers.

Webb Report 1/11

Like many people, the Knicks started the new year off with many of the same problems they ended last year with. For them it is lack of defense and the inability to close games. The first week of 2017 they went 1-3, and the one win they did get they had to fight back from an 18-point deficit.

That comeback win is a step in the right direction, but the Knicks have a ways to go before the rest of the NBA considers them to be a contender.

Webb Report:Happy New Year!!

As we start off the new year and some of us have resolutions and some of us don’t, but one thing is certain. The Knicks need to work towards two things in 2017: learning how to close games and bettering their defense.

The Knicks ended 2016 in the least favorable way, with four straight losses to the Celtics on Christmas day, the Hawks, the Pelicans and the Rockets.

The Knicks didn’t have their best week of the season, as they won their first matchup of the week against the Lakers, then went on to lose three straight to the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets.

Going into the week, the Knicks had been playing some good basketball lately, and been finding different ways to win. The same was true about their matchup against the Lakers.

The Webb Report: Knicks Review

Don’t look now but the Knicks had a really good week and really seem to be on a roll.

This week they went 3-1 and their only loss, even though it was a blowout, was to the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Knicks started off the week with a win against the Sacramento Kings in the Garden, and quite frankly they played like a team that wanted it more. They came into the matchup with a 9-3 record at home and played the game like protecting home court meant something to them.

The Knicks head into the week with a bit of momentum after beating the Minnesota Timberwolves in a back-to back matchup after losing two close games earlier in the week.

A week ago, on Saturday, the Knicks faced the Charlotte Hornets, who have exceeded many’s expectations thus far in the season and are playing very good basketball. They briefly were the second seed in the East only behind Cleveland.

Taking a Look At The New York Knicks

Just over a year ago the New York Knicks used their fourth overall pick in the NBA draft to select Kristaps Porzingis in what seemed like an attempt to rebuild a franchise that got used to losing. Just one year and five signings later the Knicks seem to have committed fully to the win-now approach instead.

Knicks acquire a superstar

Knicks acquire a superstar. By: Aron Nafisi The New York Knicks didn’t wait till the NBA Draft to make some moves. Instead they made a bold move by acquiring former MVP and rookie of the year Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls. The move left many puzzled around the NBA. Rose 27, the former number one over all pick in the 2008 NBA draft who battled numerous knee injuries and was entering the final year of his contract was sent packing by his home town Bulls. When the Knicks hired Phil Jackson as there team President over 2 years ago, this is the kind of acquisition ownership and the fan base anticipated. Rose was the NBA's MVP in 2011 when he led the Bulls to a 62-20 record and an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals. The next year the Bulls put together another solid run, only to see Rose going down with a left ACL tear in his knee at the end of game one of the first round. The Bulls lost the series a week later and were done for the season. A big cloud hung over the city of Chicago the following season. The question on every ones mind was will the former NBA MVP play at all this season. Rose started contact practice around February 2013, but no time table was set for his return. The Bulls made the playoffs and even got to the second round with out him but could not get past the defending NBA Champions Miami Heat. At the start of the 2013-2014 NBA season, Rose was back in a Bulls uniform and ready to go. However, just 10 games into the season Rose tore up his right knee and once again was out for the rest of the season. Another heartbreak for the Bulls organization and the fans of Chicago. The home town kid who played one year at Memphis, was now looking at a bleak future. Just 5 years into his career, Rose already with 2 crucial knee injuries. Rose was healthy enough for the 2014-2015 season. The Bulls opened the season against the Knicks at home. Rose put up 13 points and 5 assists in 21 minutes of play. But just 4 months in, Rose yet again injured his right knee and needed surgery. Fortunately, he wasn’t going to miss the season for one. Rose returned latein the season and led the Bulls back to playoff and a first round victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. But the in the second round, the Cleveland Cavaliers were waiting for them. The series went back and forth, but the Cavs were too much for the Bulls to handle as they too the series 4-2. The following season, the Bulls hired Fred Hoiberg as their new coach, hoping the new offense will benefit Rose. This season, the injury bug hit the team hard and the failed to make the playoffs for the first time in the Rose era. Bulls Management was left with a very difficult decision to make on Rose since he is entering the final year that will be paying around $20 million. This past Wednesday, a day before the NBA Draft, Knicks President Phil Jackson pulled the trigger on a blockbuster deal to bring Rose to Madison Square Garden. The Knicks see this as a low risk trade, if it doesn’t work, they don’t have to resign him. Rose becomes the first elite Knicks point guard in many years. This latest acquisition can be the first of many for the Knicks this summer as they look to make the playoffs for the first time in the Phil Jackson era.
